Tale of Two Cities

Beverly Hills and London Light Up

It was the best of Times. It was the worst of Times.
Actually, for cigars, it is the very best of times -- the best in the recent past. So, I lied when I said it was both, but I hate to see that opportunity for a literary illusion to go to waste. I guess there was a reason we were forced to read all those classics, after all. At any rate, while there appear to be no bad times at hand, this is indeed a story of two cities -- so there, I didn't steer you wrong.

One city is old, gray, cold, and wet. A world capital of power and wealth. The other is more than a thousand years younger, sunny, almost year-round and decidedly not a world capital, (although in some senses, it fancies itself one). It has some power, epsecially where the world of Hollywood films is concerned and, yes, it definitely has wealth. So, other than some big bucks, what do these two cities have in common? Cigars.

For the last 200 years, London has been the reigning city of cigars. This city's famous retail cigar merchants, world-renowned for their knowledge and selection of Cuban cigars, have made their city the undisputed tobacco capital of the world. Even during World War II, when Havana cigars were nearly impossible to come by, London had stocks of premium cigars from Jamaica, the rest of the Caribbean basin, and beyond.
