| Beverly Hills Beverly Hills did not even become a city until 1912. The first smoke shop to open in Beverly Hills proper that remains today is Kramer's, founded in 1947. (Down the road in beautiful Santa Monica, is Ed Kaplin Sr.'s original Tinder Box, which opened in 1928 -- but that's another story.) Three years later, in 1951, Alfred Dunhill opened his original Beverly Hills location. Dunhill's store, decidedly more upscale than Kramer's, catered to | the Hollywood elite. Now, in its new location, the humidor walls are lined with black and white autographed photos of the stars of yesterdayyear who patronized the original store.
