Soft Summer Breezes

"Deviation from nature is deviation from happiness." - Samuel Johnson

Reminiscent of childhood's carefree hazy summer days, this season brings with it a fresh, young interest in everything outdoors. A perfect day for many consists of a bright sunny afternoon spent with your constant companion - your favorite cigar. Strolling along the beach or teeing off at your favorite golf course simply wouldn't be the same without your beloved stick.

In this issue, we bring you a taste of the great outdoors. Witness firsthand the thrill of one golfer as he experience the game of a lifetime. Longtime duffer Douglas E, Morris reveals his extraordinary family outing where he has a meeting with the golf gods. "In every round I had ever played, some sound or thought has intruded on my swing. However, this time there was nothing. It was as if a white sheet had been unfurled, enveloping my brain. Swathed in this void, I swung my club, connected and the ball landed right where I envisioned it would." Check out page 46 to see how this truly magical story unfolds.

If a day at the racetrack is more up your alley, them flip to page 54, where our west coast editor, Joan Tarshis, chats up cigar-loving superstar Jeff Bridges, star of this summer's blockbuster film, Seabiscuit. An avid cigar smoker, Bridges reveals how he got interested in cigars, along with some of his favorite brands. "On a good week, I'll have one a day, kind of in the evening," he says. "I'll take a walk up this hill I have behind my house, and have a drink and a cigar. I really enjoy that." We know exactly how you feel, Jeff. Sounds like a perfect ending to a great day.

We're certain that surveying the 32 cigars we've reviewed in this issue will allow you to find a few new favorites to add to your repertoire. In this issue, we've also relaunched our flavored cigar review. Here, we taste four of the top flavored cigars on the market and uncover that these flavorful smokes - from vanilla to bourbon - offer something for every cigar enthusiast. As it is said, 'variety is the spice of life,' so why not give one of these a shot ... you just might like it.
