Jammin' with Chris Duarte
by Christopher Geitz
Whether being heralded by blues lovers all over the world as tire second coming of Lone Star guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, or blowing away a gaped-mouth audience with a passionate performance on his non-stop tour, Texas-born and bred guitarist Chris Duarte is finally getting noticed. After over a decade of playing every dive bar and club in the Continental U.S. and Canada, the 34-vear-old blues revolutionary was signed to Silvertone Records, and critics and blues fans everywhere fawned over his maiden 1994 release Sugar/Strat Magik. Now, three years later, he's back with his second effort, Tailspin Headwhack, an effort that is more produced, polished, and rocking. From the opening notes of the first cut, "Cleopatra," to the last chords of the final track, "Walls," Duarte plays from the heart or, as he puts it, "I play my ass off."
