Gurkha Cigars will acquire American Caribbean Cigars out of Esteli, Nicaragua to be the company’s first proprietary factory. The companies have been partnering for over five years and produce more than 5 million sticks per year from this location.
“Our company has seen rapid growth despite its boutique approach,” said Kaizad Hansotia, c.e.o. of Gurkha Cigars. “Owning our own factory is a natural transition and the next strategic step in being able to continue to satisfy the needs of Gurkha fans worldwide.”
American Caribbean Cigars began producing Gurkha products five years ago and produced about 150,000 sticks the first year, says Hansotia. The partnership grew strong and demand increased and just this year the factory produced over 5 million sticks. The factory will exclusively produce all of the company’s small batch boutique blends.
“I have always supported Gurkha owning our own factory,” said Juan Lopez, national sales director, Gurkha Cigars. “Owning our own factory allows us to have better control of quality and consistency of our product.”
With the purchase of American Caribbean Cigars, the company can provide more access to Gurkha and its process of producing some of the world’s finest cigars, said Hansotia in an announcement.
“We have a strong and loyal following with our Gurkha Nation,” said Eddy Guerra, director of marketing, Gurkha Cigars. “This purchase allows us to lift the veil and give a peek to our fans so they can see more of what exactly makes Gurkha so great. We are very proud of the quality produced out of American Caribbean Cigars and they have been outstanding partners for Gurkha.”
Gurkha produces 12 million cigars per year, sold in more than 70 countries worldwide. While Gurkha is known for its exclusivity, including many super-premium limited edition releases with exquisite packaging treatments, in fact it has an impressive array of 250 brands of handcrafted, premium cigars created in a variety of strengths, tasting profiles, and price-points targeting all segments of the market.
